Pete George, the host, doesn't shy away from expressing his frustration over the racial allegations surrounding Australian soccer captain Sam Kerr and NRL player Spencer Leniu. He emphasizes the disappointing double standards in the sports world and advocates for equal consequences regarding racial slurs, irrespective of the individual's background. The episode shifts gears as the excitement builds with Pete's analysis of the opening games of the AFL season, sharing his expert predictions and the passion for the game that grips the nation.
0:00:05 - (Pete George): Hi and welcome to this episode of the Pete George experience. I'm Pete George and today we're going to have a little bit of a chat about a couple of incidents that have happened off the field that gets me a little bit frustrated in the way of racial slurs. One is from the Australian female soccer captain and Aubreyan good player Sam Kerr and the other one is NRL player Spencer Lenoux. Hope I've pronounced it right.
0:00:40 - (Pete George): Not really up with the NRL too much, but that's what we're going to talk about there. And the other great thing that's happening this weekend is this little thing. You can taste the cold pies and warm beer. Already it's AFL season so we'll go through the first few games of the AFL season, but let's get this started with a topic that frustrates me, gets me a little bit wild up so hopefully I won't too angry.
0:01:27 - (Pete George): However, I am going to open this discussion with a statement that some people will not like. But facts are facts. If what these two players have done, and it was one of the white players that did it, all hell would have broken loose. So in the case of Sam Kerr, and this is still going to court as we speak and it's alleged at this stage that she has called a police officer a stupid white bastard. Now I would say reading the article that I've read in the Sydney Morning Herald from, published March 6, I think Sam might have had a little bit of a few too many drinky poo's because she's thrown up in the taxi.
0:02:34 - (Pete George): I would say had a little bit of a disagreement with the taxi driver. Police have turned up and she's given them a gobble. So that's the Sam Kerr incident. The Spencer Lenou incident where he's pleaded guilty has called Broncos player Ezra Mam a monkey. Now let's cast their minds back to an AFL game. And I know it happens a fair bit in AFL and I can never understand it and people that say you're morons, but Adam goods had a young girl thrown out of the stadium.
0:03:26 - (Pete George): Now I'm not sticking up for the young girl. She deserved everything she got. She called Adam Goods a monkey. Now Adam got absolutely rolled up about it to the point where he was sick of AFL and I would say in some regards that's why he dropped off as a player because of the continual racial slurs and you hear all the indigenous players still cop it and to have two people of non-white Australian descent. So I think Sam Kerr's from an Indian background.
0:04:11 - (Pete George): And I would say, and this is only a guess, I would say Spencer is an islander as well. Not sure where he is from, but both Ezra and Spencer are islanders. But what's annoyed me the most is that no one has really come out and heavily condoned these two players. Now, Sam Kerr is the australian female team, soccer team or football team, depending what side of the fence you come from, is a captain idolized by kids and is 90% of the reason why people go and watch female soccer when she plays and she's done this allegedly.
0:05:12 - (Pete George): Now, if she is found guilty and only time will tell, or if there's an out of court settlement of some sort, which I'd say Chelsea may be trying to do, there's two things. One, she's got to apologize to Football Australia for not letting them know, and two, never pull on the green and goal again. I know that may sound harsh, but here is a young female star and she is that's quick to criticize a lot of people for not being inclusive of the gay community, and she goes off and slags a white person.
0:05:59 - (Pete George): Now people are going to say, and in today's world, I know that's a little bit. That's okay. No, it's not. Racism is racism, no matter what color, creed, religion, or whatever you are. And if it's been said, it's been said, and you can't go back and say, I didn't really mean it the same as Spencer, I'm all apologetic and blah, blah, blah. No, guys, you guys are role models for kids, and if you're doing it, they will do it.
0:06:27 - (Pete George): So you have to cop the harshest penalties that there can be. And to me, for Sam Kerr, that is being stripped of any australian jersey, simple. I don't care how good you are, you are not above this sort of act. And with Spencer, I hope you get eight weeks because it's the only way that these people will understand the severity of it. Now, if I was playing football and did the same thing to Israel, I would never play a game of football again.
0:07:05 - (Pete George): It's simple because I'm white, technically I'm white, but my great great grandmother, she's an indigenous lady, but because I look white and the old white privileged male, it's just not good enough. So this is a big slur on the press as well that they haven't gone. Like I was listening to an interview with one of the. I think she's a senator or a member of the House of Pollocks. Dai Lee, we've got know taking into consideration this, that and the other. No, I'm sorry, no.
0:07:49 - (Pete George): The only way this can stop is make examples of star players and here's the opportunity for two codes to go hard. Well, Spencer's guilty now so that's just up to the tribunal or judiciary or whoever's looking after this side of things to penalize him for Sam Coor. If the courts find her guilty, then the book's got to be thrown at her by Football Australia and Chelsea. Simple. A message has to get out.
0:08:25 - (Pete George): It's bad enough that you get the drongos in the stands doing it, but this is not good enough from players. So I know it's a little bit of an opener and I hope people understand that. No, racism isn't good, whether it's the color of your skin, your religion, where you were born, whatever, it's just not on everybody's everybody. We're all out there fighting a fight to try to be the best version of ourselves and this doesn't help because kids are influenced by what adults do and their heroes do. And Sam Kerr, I just hope you are not found guilty by the court but if you are, you've let down a nation.
0:09:25 - (Pete George): So that's my little rant about that. But let's get into the good stuff. And that is now if you're from Victoria and you're about my vintage, it is now the season of cold pies and warm beer. AFL footy season. So if you're from overseas, look up AFL and I think you'll get into it and thoroughly enjoy it. It's the greatest game on earth as far as I'm concerned. It tests every person's ability on how they play. So this week the game start on Thursday, march the 7th. And this is a little bit different to how the AFL normally open up their round.
0:10:21 - (Pete George): NRL always had a week ahead so now they've gone into that same week that the NRL start with four games and they're in Queensland and New South Wales so they're trying to jump on that market to make sure that people go to the footy. And according to all reports I saw something from the Giants saying that the game between Collingwood's already sold out, Jane and I are going to Saturday to the Suns Richmond game which there's not a heap of seats left. I don't think Brisbane and Carlton will be the same and I'd say Sydney and Melbourne will be the same on Thursday night.
0:11:05 - (Pete George): So there's a few of the teams that played in the finals and that's Sydney played Melbourne. Brisbane. Runners up by four points. Poor buggers. Carlton. The Giants played. Collingwood played. The only two teams that haven't played in the finals last year are the Suns and Richmond. And I don't think either of them will be playing finals this year. So that then round, there's no teams out except for the Sydney Melbourne. Having a look at those teams, I just think Sydney's going to be a little bit stronger for Melbourne.
0:11:46 - (Pete George): Be interesting to see how Brody Grunty goes in his new colours. The Sydney colours. He's moved from Collingwood to Melbourne to Sydney in three seasons, so it'd be interesting to see how he fits in there. And it'll be interesting to see. I'm just going to remember the young fella's name, James Jordan. See how he goes without Buddy being around. So that's going to be interesting to see. And I just think at SCG, swans by three goals.
0:12:26 - (Pete George): So the new players for Sydney, Brady Grundy and James Jordan, it's going to be interesting to see how he goes. No buddy up there, so he's going to be a big focus point. Hayden McLean, he should lift too. And over in Melbourne, Kelleb Windsor, Blake House, Jack Billings. Jack Billings is the one to watch. He's on the interchange. On the extended interchange, then, as an emergency, is Taj Woden. His dad was a pretty good anti footballer as well.
0:13:01 - (Pete George): So that's the Thursday game. The Friday game is Brisbane Carlton. I just think the Lions will belt the Pajeebas out of Carlton for two reasons. They're a very good side and they got most of their players there. And the humidity up here in Queensland has been pretty high. Still pretty high. 28 degrees puts it up to about 32 33 with the humidity. And I just think Brisbane easy. Then we go to the Saturday games.
0:13:36 - (Pete George): Golco Suns play Richmond. This is the first game for Damien Hardwick, who used to be Richmond's coach. Left midway through the year, last year to everybody's shock, and then turns up at the expense of Stewie Jew, which I thought was a bit rough by the. Oh, here's a big statement. If Stuart Jew doesn't get the Suns into the finals next year, 2025, he should be sacked. Simple. And then we got Giants versus Collingwood. I think the Giants will beat them at home at their grand, which is a funny looking ground, but I just think they'll be a little bit too strong for Collingwood.
0:14:33 - (Pete George): And there's always that first game hangover from a grand final. So there we go. That's this week's one of this week's episode. So this Sunday, 03:00 I'll be doing the Sunday land. So we'll be able to have a chat about the games. I'll give you my thoughts on the Sun's games. There's a couple of other political things I got to bring up on Sunday. So talk about we've got in Queensland cancel election. So if you're interested in politics, Sunday's going to be a little bit politics show and then we'll see what happens in the news.
0:15:22 - (Pete George): But I'll be doing a tip show that will come out every Thursday. So bit behind this week, but being a bit ill, trying to work out what's wrong. But that's all good. Soldier on and soldier on. So that's the show for this week. Don't forget to subscribe. This will be over on YouTube music. They pull in the show from there and go to petergeorge.com au and you can listen to the show there. All your favorite platforms, Spotify, Apple podcast, Amazon and a heap of others if you're in India, Jovan, we're over there as well. So yeah, as I always say, be the best version of yourself and enjoy every day when you wake up.
0:16:16 - (Pete George): Bye. For nowhere, it, it.
